last week it took a heavy May snow before I had an idea of what I wanted on a card.
With my brothers BD at the end of the week I just knew I wanted a cupcake on this week MJM.

Below you will see the 3rd challenge is for Autism Awareness Month

Okay everyone!  Here is big reveal for the CEC VERY SPECIAL CHALLENGE!  It is truly my prayer and hope that we have a minimum of 50 participants in this challenge.  Here goes...

A couple of weeks ago, and very lovely woman named CANDI contacted me and asked if I could consider posting a challenge sometime in April that had a puzzle piece on it, as April is AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH.  Here is some information she sent me regarding Autism:

Autism was first identified in 1943 by Dr. Leo Kanner of Johns Hopkins Hospital.  Dr. Kanner thought that autism was caused by poor parenting – that it was a “refrigerator mother” (cold, uncaring, detached) who caused the child to have autism.  Today, we know that autism is a complex, neurological disorder that typically appears during the first three years of life.   It affects the normal functioning of the brain, impacting development in the areas of social interaction, verbal and non-verbal communication and leisure or play skills.  Every person with autism is unique.  Children and adults with autism can exhibit any combination of these behaviors in any degree of severity. Two children, both with the same diagnosis, can act completely different from one another and have varying capabilities.

Prevalence

In 2009, the CDC estimated that autism occurs in one of 110 children; that is 1% of the population.  It occurs in all racial, ethnic, and social groups and is four times more likely to strike boys than girls.  One in 70 boys is on the autism spectrum.   It is estimated that approximately 1,500,000 Americans have an autism spectrum disorder.

Autism is the fastest growing developmental disability. In the U.S. alone, autism increased by 600% in the last 20 years.  The autism spectrum disorders are more common in the pediatric population than are some better known disorders such as diabetes, spinal bifida, or Down syndrome. At the present rate of growth, ASA estimates that the prevalence of autism could reach 4 million Americans in the next decade.


So, with that information, I thought wouldn't it be great to do something more than just post a challenge with a puzzle piece on it (the puzzle piece is the symbol for Autism).  Candi's daughter Danielle has autism and she belongs to a group of other teenagers with autism.  They meet and craft together, and Candi says that their favorite thing to do is use the cricut to make crafts.  So, here is the challenge:


1)  Since April is Autism Awareness Month, this challenge actually STARTS next week, but I wanted to give everyone PLENTY OF NOTICE to start thinking about what they wanted to make or get a puzzle cut from a friend!
2)  The CEC cart for next week is ANY CART that has a puzzle piece on it.  They include:  Locker Talk, My Community, Don Juan, Learning Curve, and Printing 101.
3)  If you do not have any of those carts, you may use ACTUAL puzzle pieces to complete your project.
4)  If you don't have any puzzle pieces, you may hand cut a puzzle piece!  Just get a puzzle piece!!!
5)  You will make a project using the puzzle piece...but here is what you do with them:  Candi announced to her daughter's group that there was a bunch of ladies who will be sending them something to recognize them.  You will MAIL your project (it can be a card, a book, ANYTHING...as long as it has a puzzle piece on it) to Candi.  You may contact Candi at bernshwag@yahoo.com for her mailing address or you can PM her.  Her MB name is bernshwag.
6)  All projects must be received by Candi no later than April 17th in order to receive a prize, but if you aren't worried about being entered for a prize, feel free to send whenever you want!
7)  Now, about the prizes:

We have several prizes.  The first prize is a $20.00 gift card from Michael's!  That prize is separate from all the other prizes as you will simply need to put your name in the thread that says "CEC AUTISM AWARENESS PRIZE THREAD", and you will be automatically in the drawing for the gift card without having to send in anything.  That thread will be posted and ready for entrances next Sunday!  HOWEVER, all other prizes require your entrance being sent to Candi.  Her daughter Danielle will draw names out of a bag from those who sent Danielle and her friends a card, book, project, etc.

There are five prizes!  The first prize is DONATED by JULIA at JuJu Bees Scrapbooking! http://www.jujubeesscrapbookcorner.com/  She has donated a CART...the title to be announced.  The second prize is the Mother's Day Solution Cart!  The third prize a grab bag filled with crafting items!  The Fourth prize is a gently used set of SU Miracle of Spring Stamp Set and the 5th prize is a gently used set of Early Spring Stamp set!

Winners will be announced in this thread!

As in all other challenges, you must post your creation here in this thread and in the forum thread to the cart that you used, SO MAKE SURE YOU TAKE A PICTURE OF YOUR CREATION(S) BEFORE SENDING THEM TO CANDI!!!

I am very excited about this challenge.  Candi has promised to take pictures of everything so we can post them for all of you to see the impact that your creation makes on these children!

Speaking of Christmas, this week's challenge is to make a Christmas card using one or more of the following things that start with the letter "S" ...Santa, Stocking, Sleigh, Snowman or Snowflake. Use the cartridge(s) or colors of your choice.
even though this is not a card, it holds 8 to 10 card!

I have been making these holders for years now, with computer  generated cards.  Now that I am making cards I  can decorate the holder also.
start with a 5 cent folder (when they are on sale before school starts)

you can see that each side can hold about 4 or 5 with the envelopes      
1/4 size cards, I used velcro pieces to hold it shut!

I used another clip art for this card, I am having so much fun with my clip art,
clip art from Hallmark studio 2009,  MM scallop at 4 and 3 1/2, cuttlebug folders 2 different ones.
you might think the back ground be a bit odd, but it reminds me of wall paper when we move to Wausau
when I was a young girl. It did not stay up long because my parents did not like wall paper, there where more rooms that had wall paper, and it did not last for long!

With Thanksgiving just a week away, we decided that challenge # 18 would be to make a card, LO or craft project with a Thanksgiving theme. With the holidays just around the corner, we here at the BBTB want to see a project based upon being thankful....it seems as though right after Halloween we all seem to jump right into thinking about Christmas and totally forget about Thanksgiving..
So we want to see any type of project based on:

THANKSGIVING, GRATITUDE, BLESSINGS, TURKEY STUFF (SMILE)
BEING THANKFUL, GRATEFUL
Anything along these lines will fit.............

I know that we are all getting ready for Thanksgiving cooking and eating, so we thought it would be nice to have a challenge with fruit.  I bet you thought turkey, well thats for next week. This week please share your creations with any type of fruit in them. Can't wait to see your yummy creations.

I started this card on my BD which happens to be Veterans  Day, thinking about all the men and women who have severed our country and died for it, and also the shootings that took place at Fort Hill in TX this last week.  So I give thanks to all, I choose the apple because one day Britt came home all excited and wanted to show me something cool, okay I thought, I watched her cut an apple the wide way and inside she showed me the seeds formed a star. I thought that was pretty cool. so we ate an apple!

This week we are celebrating Halloween with a color challenge for you. We are challenging you to make Halloween Cards using the colors  Purple, Green and Black.

This is the first time I ever used textured paper that could be sanded.
Purple is under the black and I added a bit of stickles for bling.
